Guns are tools that are used. They are sent to the person to respond to the threat. They can keep themselves at home ready to solve a problem in the house. If we have a warning then we are usually better advised to send a gun or pistol.

The gun is then a weapon of opportunity. Although guns are not the most powerful weapons, they are the ones we usually have with us when a gun is needed to save our lives. I spent several months reviewing the Taurus ruler and gained a good opinion of the gun for its best use.

The Ruler is a 5-shot rifle that feeds either a .410 shotgun shell or a .45 Colt shell. It means doing different things. In the same way, the design determines the accuracy and range of the revolver. As the pure, short-lived protector of the home, the Ruler of Taurus has character.
There is a strong argument that it is important to get on target quickly and hit - any hit - very quickly. This is correct. I learned that it is better to slow down and find a place to hit than to miss quickly. This does not mean that a quick strike is impossible; it just takes practice.
A judge addresses this need by awarding gun compensation. The .410 Channel isn't powerful, but it has the right load—and that's the key—providing a viable defensive option. Surprisingly, my research shows that the Taurus ruler can protect himself from nearby monsters. My test piece is probably the standard Judge (there are several options), a steel-frame revolver with a 3.0-inch barrel.
The revolver is light enough, holds up better than its ugly appearance, and offers a good chance to hit those practicing. The fit, finish and smoothness of the action are excellent. The revolver has a red optical sight. This scope provides a good aiming position and helps to quickly acquire the target.

Short barrel smoothbore shotguns are illegal, the .410 and .45 Colt are so close that Taurus was able to design and manufacture a revolver chambered for both the .410 and .45 Colt cartridges. There is a crack, but it is not deep.
Like a double action revolver, the Judge is easy to handle. Open the cylinder, load the chambers and press the trigger. No rack sliders, no storage to use. The idea is to allow the shooter to get a quick hit with the rifle. Although each bullet does not carry a lot of energy, the load effect that hits it with several projectiles provides excellent wounding ability.
You may have seen negative videos and commercials where the Taurus Ruler is fired at a target and the target is bombarded with hits. Birdshot is a low grade shot designed to kill birds and small species. It doesn't help to protect yourself either. Like target shooting, bird shooting is good for practice, but not for defense. Filling a bird from 7 to 9 shots carries hundreds of small pieces of paper that form a pattern.
On a typical personal defense, this pattern ranges from 18 to 32 inches. These seven yards, after that birdie hit, are useless. Worse, the small gun only penetrates a few inches. A criminal wearing a heavy winter jacket may be completely unharmed. At about 15 feet, a load of Federal 4, loaded with shot No. 3, has a coherent pattern of less than three inches. This is the load of choice for those using the .410 load for self defense.
Taurus The Judge .45 / .410 Caliber Revolver
The Fed load is advertised at 750 fps, but is actually clocked over 800 fps in the Controller. The total payload is 292 grains. Winchester offers PDKS loads with full loads of over 300 grains, with three flat disc and BB Shot loads. With this load, the pattern is usually large (up to 16 cm by 15 m) and the discs hit the center of the target.
The Hornady .410 Defense load consists of a .41 caliber slug followed by two round balls. The slug usually follows a straight line with the target dot and the glowing balls in the middle. It is important to compare the shot on a paper target to see how the shot spreads at 5 to 10 yards.
In my opinion, 7 yards is the limit for these stores, although a Hornady slug with an FTX design can help a little more. Ground, shooting and special loads are useful for home defense and short range protection from predators. Penetration tests in water bottles and wet newsprint show that these loads cause the worst injuries.
A bird can fit into a six-inch pitcher and one shot will reach the other pitcher, but very little. Federal's 2 ½-inch shell with 4 OOO balls penetrates over 24 inches, which can fit up to 18 inches in gelatin. It is the best.

The Winchester PDKS load shows a very large pattern. However, the three discs in the PDKS provide a 3×4 pattern at 15 feet. The largest pattern consists of 12 BBs. The Hornady FTX slug penetrates 15 inches from this rifle, with two round balls making a total group of 3 to 5 inches at 15 feet.
These heavy loads should produce devastating results at 15 feet to maybe 21 feet, a magical average range of 7 yards. In fact, across the room or bedroom is common. The referee must be aiming, but the pattern is spread out enough to aid in hitting at 10 to 15 feet. This gun is no longer useful than 21 feet with a rifle.
Another option is to load the controller with .45 Colt ammunition. To comply with federal firearms and ammunition law, the Judge is a .45 Colt revolver with the option to fire the .410 cartridge. The pitcher was fired. The long jump of a .45 Colt bullet from the chamber to the muzzle would seem to limit both velocity and accuracy. In some cases this is true. However, my recent testing shows that this loss is not what we think it would be.
The controller has enough power for heavy loads, including hard-throwing SVC rounds. It depends on how much recoil tolerance you have. A good choice for self-defense is Hornady Critical Defense. This 185 grain bullet has a good reputation for expansion and penetration. Velocity is 891 fps, forming a three-inch Taurus Ruler. The recoil is moderate. This charge hits the target. At 15 yards, five shots fired from a strong bench position produced a three-inch group. This is well organized for self-defense.
Used Taurus Judge 410 Ga Judge Hand Gun Buy Online
Another option worth considering is the 225 grain Winchester PDKS JHP. This load produces a strong hit at 780 fps. This bullet weight offers great range. The Colt .45 is among the few small guns that perform well without adding bullets. This has been shown in the Old West and in many interactions since then.
A solid choice is the 255-grain Winchester lead bullet. This bullet comes out at 770 fps from the ruler. (And 778 fps from a 4 ¾ inch revolver on hand for comparison.) Penetration can be 18 inches, good for self defense, but recoil is mild. This is also a standard load with a 3 inch group at 15 yards. If the owner of the judge expects to shoot long distances, the .45 Colt provides a healable wound without significant recoil.
The referee is a professional gun. It's not a do-anything gun by any means. But what it does, it does well. It's worth your time to check out the judge.
